Picnic in the Park
Sunday 17th July
Baggeridge Country Park
On a beautiful warm and sunny day eight adults and four Young People travelled to Baggeridge Country Park following Morning Service. After a 'short' walk, a spot on a large grassy area with trees for shade was chosen. Chairs were set up and blankets laid on the ground then cooler boxes and bags were opened to reveal rolls, salad, fruit, cakes, biscuits and drinks. Everyone had food for themselves and a good selection to share with others. After eating it was time for games. Penalty shootout, cricket and rounders were enjoyed by Kieron, Carly, Peter, Grace, Katharine and Joshua. Alfie played frisbie and boules and hunted for the Gruffalo in the trees. Dorothy, Kim, Michaela, Yvonne and David worked hard at watching and laughing. It was soon ice-cream time and seven trooped off to the little shop by the car park. They were gone a long time as the queues were long and each type of ice-cream had a different line. As four different kinds had been requested, it was good that so many went to fetch them. it was a lovely afternoon shared by friends. Hopefully more people will join the party next year.

Picnic in the Park
Sunday, 12th July
Baggeridge Country Park
After trying for three years, Picnic in the Park finally became a reality. Ten adults and six young people plus one dog (Chloe) travelled in five cars to Baggeridge Country Park. After a dull start, the sun came out and it became a lovely sunny afternoon. Cooler boxes were opened and out came sandwiches, rolls, salad, cakes, biscuits and drinks. Not only had everyone brought their own food but, also, food to share. Katie and Grace took the younger children to the adventure playground then Kieron organised a game of football-cum-catch with the youngsters while Carly and Peter fetched ice creams from the shop - very welcome with the temperature rising. What had begun as a dull shall-we-stay, shall-we-go, morning turned into a relaxing afternoon, at least, for those who weren't running around with a ball.

Picnic in the (Park) Garden
Sunday, 13th July
The weather didn't look too bright and with all the overnight rain, it was thought that the grass at Baggeridge Country Park would be too wet for games so it was agreed that, again, the Picnic in the Park would become the Picnic in the Garden. Chairs were set up and cooler boxes opened for a picnic in the lovely little Memorial Garden at Darkhouse.
The more adventurous (and energetic) played rounders on the car park and threw a massive beach ball around the hall.

Christmas Concert with The Marston Singers
Saturday, 7th December
A wonderful evening of song was enjoyed by all who attended the concert.
The programme was split into two parts:
The first part was mainly songs from The Shows with a great solo rendition of
"The Hippopotamus Song" by Martin Evans.
The second part prepared everyone for the festive season
when they were invited to join in singing Christmas carols and songs.
The evening ended with an original, and most enjoyable, version of "Away in a Manger".
Thanks go to the choir, soloists, accompanist and Musical Director for a most entertaining evening.
It is hoped to have the Marston Singers return to Darkhouse for a Spring Concert.
watch out for announcements when this is arranged.

Picnic in the [Park] Garden
Sunday, 28th July 2013
When the summer sunshine threatened to turn to rain, a quick change of plan moved the proposed Picnic at Himley Hall
to the lovely Memorial Garden at Darkhouse.
With blankets on the floor (ideal for a crawling baby), fold-up chairs for more senior folk (6 years upwards) and tables laden with food (well, it was a Darkhouse event, after all) a lovely picnic lunch was enjoyed by everyone.
Every picnic has to have games so, after lunch, Kieron 'encouraged' almost-everyone to go outside and play Rounders.
The laughter and shouting that wafted around, even tempted a touring police car to turn into the car park
to check out what was happening!
As the game came to an end - does anyone know which Team won? - drops of rain appeared and most folk decided to wend their way home saying, amongst their goodbyes, that they had had a lovely time.
The two remaining families moved into the Church Hall for an impromptu game of cricket
and laughter and joyous shouts soon filled the room.
Although the location was changed, the Picnic in the Park was voted a huge success
and it was agreed that the event will be repeated!
